Our Origin Story

The following story is a true one, known all too well by parents all over the world.

Her phone buzzed. It was the babysitter that she booked weeks ago for her dinner tonight. The sitter canceled. She continued to do the thousand things she was already doing and then added “texting every babysitter stored in her phone to see if she could pull off a miracle” to her list. Everyone was booked, or they didn’t respond.

She called neighbors, bribed family, debated whether her 4- and 6-year-olds could cook their own dinner and get themselves to bed, tried to reschedule dinner… and then she canceled her plans. And stayed home.

In May 2010, Tori got six of these “every babysitter stored in your phone” calls in one night. But she was already working and couldn’t help. She knew there had to be a better way.

That evening, Chicago Super Sitters was born.

Over a decade and a half later, Super Sitters has matched tens of thousands of in-home placements, handled weddings and small and large events in multiple states, hosted training sessions, survived a pandemic, met and mentored hundreds of Super Sitters, and become the top-rated babysitting agency in Chicago.

Tori Ulrich

Meet Tori, the original Super Sitter and founder of Super Sitters.

After an early career in childcare and moving to Chicago in 2005, she became a sitter and nanny for multiple families. It was while working with these families and seeing the struggles they faced when she wasn’t available that Chicago Super Sitters became a reality.

Through her own childhood experiences, Tori has seen firsthand how love, personalized care, and one-on-one attention can make all the difference for a child at any age. She has dedicated her life to ensuring parents feel heard, respected, and safe, and that childcare providers do as well. Tori knows firsthand that the relationship between a family and a babysitter can be amazing, and she works every day to create these special relationships for others.

Tori has worked with hundreds of families in Chicagoland and is a leader and mentor for sitters and a consistent comfort for parents and families. Through her dedicated work in the community, she has recognized the ever-growing need for a service like Super Sitters. She continues to expand services and add options to make it easy and safe for everyone.
